     Since the opening of the Karakalpak State Pedagogical Institute, textbooks on physical education have been taught to students. However, during these years, the institute did not have a special physical education department, faculty, and only in the postwar years of the 2nd century in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, a wide path was opened for the development of physical culture and sports among all our people, especially among our youth. At this time, the organization, development of physical education classes, and other mass events for health improvement and sports work were entrusted to the military department of the institute. Only in 1956, due to the opening of the Faculty of Physical Culture at the Karakalpak State Pedagogical Institute, the Department of Physical Culture was established in the specialty, and in the same year, 50 students were admitted to the faculty.

     A graduate of the P.F. Lesgaft Leningrad State Institute of Physical Culture, E.V. Krasnikova, and the Head of the Department of Theory and Methods of Physical Education, graduate of the P.F. Lesgaft Leningrad State Institute of Physical Culture, E.P. Khotenko, were appointed to the newly opened Faculty of Physical Education as Faculty Dean. The faculty consisted of graduates of the central institute of that time. Among them, graduates of the Moscow State Institute of Physical Culture K.Gulimbetov, K.T.Kagarmanov, and A.I.Izimbetov, graduates of the Leningrad State Institute of Physical Culture V.I.Solovyov, V.F.Pushkin, and graduates of the Tbilisi State Institute of Physical Culture R.G.Biblis, E.M.Osipov made a great contribution to the training of specialist athletes and physical education teachers. In those years, the faculty department was headed by Prof. P.Shilmanov, Candidate of Biological Sciences. P.Ospanov, Candidate of Technical Sciences Sh.Orazov, Candidate of Technical Sciences O.Otenov, Candidate of Technical Sciences B.Kaypov, Associate Professor. A.Aytniyazov, Associate Professor J.Mambetov, Senior Lecturers D.Niyazimbetov, A.Jumanov, M.Abutov, A.Reymov. In 2005, as a result of the merger of faculties and departments, he was transferred to the Department of Theory and Practice of Physical Education. Headed by B. Kaipov. From September 2009 to 2015, the department was headed by A.Utepbergenov, from 2015 to 2021 – by A.Kazakov, from 2021 to 2022 – by D.Nurishov, Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). Since the 2022-2023 academic year, the faculty has been operating 2 departments, the Department of Physical Education Theory is headed by Associate Professor A. Eshbayev, and the Department of Sports Sciences is headed by Professor A. Niyazov. Currently, 36 professors and teachers teach students at the Faculty of Physical Education, including 2 candidates of science, 2 professors, 6 associate professors, 9 senior lecturers, and 18 assistants. Currently, the Faculty of Physical Education is headed by Candidate of Biological Sciences, Professor A.K.Utepbergenov.

     The Faculty of Physical Education has directions 60112200-Physical Education, 60111900-Physical Education and Sport in preschool and primary education. At the same time, in 2020, a master’s degree specialty 70112201 – “Theory and Methodology of Physical Culture and Sports Training” was opened. The faculty’s pedagogical staff, master’s students, and students actively participate in solving various tasks in state scientific research areas in the field of physical education.  In 2022, a doctoral dissertation (PhD) was successfully defended in the field of “Theory and Methodology of Physical Culture and Sports Training.” Of the teaching staff of the department, 6 are independent applicants and are conducting research work. To date, the professors and teachers of the department have prepared 14 textbooks, 22 teaching aids, and more than 28 teaching aids.

A total of 567 students are studying at the faculty. Of these, 441 are boys and 126 are girls.
