The Department of Russian Language and Literature was opened in 1937 on the basis of the Turtkul State Teachers’ Training Institute (now the Nukus State Pedagogical Institute) as part of the Faculty of Russian Language and Literature. The first faculty of the department was formed from among the specialists in Russian language and literature who arrived from Russia. Such famous teachers as G.D. Petrov, L.A. Saradzhev, P.G. Gopshteyin, associate professors P.I. Senin, A.N. Sidorov, teachers Sedletsky, T.A. Ivanova and many others have forever entered the history of the institute. In a short period of time, they managed to prepare a contingent of promising scientific and pedagogical personnel from among their graduates, who quickly took leading positions in the scientific and educational spheres of the republic. Among them are academicians of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan. M.K. Nurmukhamedov and H.Khalilov, doctors of philological sciences, professors N.A. Urumbaev, E. Berdimuratov and A.U. Umarov, K.M. Koschanov, associate professor A. Dzhaksybaev and others. These are the people who stood at the origins of the development of Russian studies as a science in Karakalpakstan. They are the authors of scientific works-monographs and textbooks and teaching aids for schools and universities, methodological developments, which are well-known in the republic. Leading specialists of the Department of Russian Philology of the last decades, associate professors S.A. Allayarov, A.A. Turabaev, B.Kh. Khoshanov, U.Yu. Matkurbanov, Yu.Kh. Matkurbanov, K.S. Saparov, K.P. Seitova, Z.A. Shamuratova, T.Zh. Khalmuratov, G.Zh. Allamuratova, N.B. Orymbetova and others.

The history of the department and the institute included teachers L.S. Baeva, M.A. Maksyutova, T.P. Mulik, A.I. Balakina, Z.M. Kulakova, N.I. Volosatova, M.A. Berdibaeva and other specialists who made a significant contribution to the development of the Russian language and literature in the region.

The following departments functioned – the department of modern Russian language, methods of teaching and practice of the Russian language, Russian literature, Russian literature and methods of teaching and the interfaculty department of the Russian language. At present, the institute has a department of Russian language and literature.

The departments were headed by Leonid Aleksandrovich Saradzhev. Then, until 1958, the department was headed by Georgy Dmitrievich Petrov. From 1960-1962, the department was headed by A.D. Dzhaksybaev, and from 1963 to 1974, by P.I. Senin. The department was headed by N.A. Urumbaev in the 70s-80s, A. U. Umarov, A. Zh. Zharimbetov in the 80s, K.M. Koshchanov, U.Yu. Matkurbanov, Yu. Kh. Matkurbanov in 1990-2000, N.B. Orymbetova, T.Zh. Khalmuratov, E.N. Eshniyazova in 2000-2018. Currently, the Department of Russian Language and Literature is headed by PhD in Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor A.A. Khodzhaniyazova. Today, the department employs more than 20 teachers. Of these, 8 are candidates of science, 1 professor, 5 associate professors, 5 senior teachers. Koshchanov K. The Department of Russian Philology conducts research work in the following areas:

Problems of the modern Russian language;

Theory and history of Russian literature;

Methods of teaching Russian language and literature;

Comparative grammar of Russian and Karakalpak languages;

There are 2 clubs at the Russian language department – “Methodology of Teaching Literature”, “Circle of Expressive Reading and Theater Arts”. Interaction of Russian and Karakalpak languages.

The teaching staff of the Department of Russian Philology is an active participant in scientific-theoretical, scientific-practical conferences and scientific-methodological seminars held in the Republic of Uzbekistan and abroad.

The teachers of the department annually publish textbooks, monographs and teaching aids for students and pupils.

The Department of Russian Language and Literature of the Nukus State Pedagogical Institute actively cooperates in the field of education, science and innovation with many universities included in the top 1000 best. For the purpose of mutual cooperation and integration, primarily to improve the quality of education, to develop innovation and science, agreements were signed between our department and the relevant departments of such universities as: Moscow State Pedagogical University, Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, L.N. Gumilyov, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Abay Kazakh National Pedagogical University, Novosibirsk State Technical University, Volgograd Social and Pedagogical University, Lipetsk State Pedagogical University named after P.P. Semenov-Tyan-Shansky, Russian State Pedagogical University named after A.I. Herzen.

International partnership establishes mutually beneficial ties in the field of education, science and culture; develops relations between scientific and pedagogical teams; activates the process of integration of the parties into the global educational and scientific community.

In pursuance of the agreement, inter-university webinars on topics related to modern forms and methods of education, seminars in the field of education, science and culture are organized and held at Azhiniyaz NSPI within the framework of innovative cooperation; development of relations between scientific and pedagogical teams; activation of the process of integration of the parties into the global educational and scientific community.

Cooperation with one of the leading universities of Kazakhstan was the fact that the Department of Russian Language and Literature annually gives lectures to Professor of KazNPU named after Abay Kazhigaliyev G.A., Associate Professor of the Department of Russian Philology of the Eurasian National University named after L.N. Gumilyov Khamidova A.Kh.

The next step in the innovative activities of the department was that the Department of Russian Language and Literature participated in the online project “Novosibirsk – Nukus” (within the framework of the project “Russian language in the post-Soviet linguacultural and scientific space”), financed by the Novosibirsk State Technical University (NSTU NETI) and implemented by the Department of Philology of the Faculty of Humanitarian Education of NSTU NETI, which received an internal grant based on the results of the competition for the implementation of integration projects with foreign universities and international organizations, as a result of which the author’s monograph “Language-culture-education” was published. The goal of the project is to find and improve the means and methods of strengthening the position of the Russian language in the post-Soviet socio-cultural space, supporting the system of teaching Russian in the educational environment of Uzbekistan. There were more than 30 listeners of the online courses “live” (teachers and master’s students), of which 20 received certificates of advanced training.

In the 2020 academic year, the department’s teachers and students participated in the online project “Immersion in Culture – a Step to Understanding the Language”, organized by the Lipetsk State Pedagogical University named after P.P. Semenov-Tyan-Shansky, the project is being implemented within the framework of a grant from the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, the goal of the project: popularization of the Russian language, formation of interest in the Russian language and Russian education. Also, within the framework of the agreement on research and cultural activities with the Lipetsk State Pedagogical University named after P.P. Semenov-Tyan-Shansky, the international project “Language Created for Poetry …” (Masterpieces of World Poetry in Russian Translations) was implemented. 25 countries of Europe and the CIS are also invited to participate in the project. The European partners of the project were: the National Institute of Oriental Languages ​​and Cultures INALCO (Paris), the Russian School “Teremok” (Paris), the Russian Language Association “Istok” (Paris), etc.

The department annually hosts international and republican scientific and practical conferences on the topic “Philology: from theory to practice”. The purpose of which is to solve scientific problems in the field of linguistics and literary criticism, including promoting the practical implementation of their results, as well as establishing scientific contacts between domestic and foreign scientists.

The department is implementing the project “Historical Truth about the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 and the Fight against Its Distortions through Factual Material and Artistic Works of Russian and Karakalpak Poets” funded by the “Russian World” Foundation.

The Department of Russian Language and Literature of the NSPI named after Ajiniyaza maintains international relations with many universities included in the top 1000 according to the international rating, with the Russkiy Mir Foundation, including Rossotrudnichestvo in the Republic of Uzbekistan. In accordance with the fulfillment of the clauses of the agreement with the Representative Office of Rossotrudnichestvo in the Republic of Uzbekistan, represented by the head Irina Aleksandrovna Staroselskaya, books (methodological, educational, fiction and reference literature in the amount of 210 pieces) were donated to the Department of Russian Language and Literature in the amount of 1388.44 dollars. According to the Erasmus+ KA 171 project “Learning mobility for higher education students” between the Dresden University of Technology and the Department of Russian Language and Literature of the Institute (internship of teaching staff, student exchange), of which the Department of Russian Language and Literature is a participant, in June the head of the department A. Khodjaniyazova attended an internship and also held classes at the Dresden University of Technology, from September 5 to December 25, students from Germany Ellen Kremer and Annika Julia Suker received knowledge and language practice at the Department of Russian Language within the framework of the project, in turn, they acquainted teachers and students with the German education system and the country itself, presenting the creative work “Welcome to Germany!”. During the event, they shared information about their homeland, the city of Dresden, as well as the education system in Germany, the structure of the Dresden University of Technology, which is in the top list of the best universities in the world.

Also, for several years, the Department of Russian Language and Literature of the Azhiniyaz NGPI has been cooperating with many foreign universities. One of these is the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University (ENU). Student mobility at the Azhiniyaz NGPI is developing and is an important area of ​​its international activities. The Institute supports academic mobility programs that provide students and teachers with unique opportunities for studying and researching abroad, as well as for exchanging experiences with foreign colleagues. This 2024-2025 academic year, in the fall semester, students of the Russian Language and Literature and Russian Language in Foreign Language Groups specialties – 4th year students Bainazarova A., 3rd year students Saparbekova F., 2nd year students Kallibeco I., and Sobirov D. received knowledge on academic mobility at the L.N. Gumilyov ENU. Traditionally, annually, starting from 2020, the Department of Russian Philology of the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University (Astana, Kazakhstan) together with our Department of Russian Language and Literature of the A.N. Azhiniyaz Nukus State Pedagogical Institute organizes and holds the International Scientific and Practical Conference of Young Scientists “NURGALIEV READINGS: SCIENTIFIC COMMUNITY OF STUDENTS OF THE 21ST CENTURY. PHILOLOGICAL SCIENCES”. Based on the results of the conference, a collection is published in electronic format with inclusion in the RINTS (Russian Science Citation Index) database and assignment of ISBN.

In April 2023, at the invitation of the Kazan Federal University (Russian Federation), teachers of the department A. Zarymbetov, R. Tleubergenova successfully completed advanced training courses at this university. The advanced training courses at the Institute of Psychology and Education of KFU covered competencies in the field of design and implementation of research, pedagogical activities and publication scientific activity of Kazan University. The Institute of International Relations, the Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communication, the Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology of KFU, EduTech, the Lyceum named after N.I. Lobachevsky, and the kindergarten “We are together” also took part in the implementation of the internship program.

In June 2024, teachers of the department A. Khodjaniyazova, S. Elmuratova, M. Grigorieva successfully completed advanced training courses at the Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi in the direction of “Teaching Methods and Innovative Technologies for Teaching the Russian Language”.

For several years now, the Department of Russian Language and Literature has been working together with Secondary Comprehensive School No. 31 in Nukus. Associate Professor of the Department E. Yeshniyazova is responsible for working with the school. A plan of joint work is being drawn up and master classes, seminars, thematic events are being held, students of the department undergo teaching practice.

The teachers of the department A. Khodjaniyazova, E. Yeshniyazova, N. Turabaeva, G. Genzhebaeva, M. Grigorieva, Yu. Shamshetova have published textbooks and teaching aids approved by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation.

Students of the Department of Russian Language and Literature actively participate in international competitions, conferences, olympiads, and become scholarship holders of personal scholarships.

Koshchanov Kutlymurat Moyatdinovich, candidate of philological sciences, professor. Born on January 21, 1951 in the Kegeyli region. In 1974 he graduated from the Karakalpak State Pedagogical Institute. Specialty – philologist, teacher of Russian language and literature. In 1978 he defended his thesis on the topic “Russian-international vocabulary as a source of enrichment of the vocabulary of the Karakalpak language.” The area of ​​scientific interests is the process of borrowing. Author of over 50 monographs, textbooks and manuals for universities, schools and colleges, and over 250 scientific and methodological articles published in scientific journals of the Republic of Uzbekistan and abroad. K. Koshchanov was repeatedly awarded the Certificates of Honor of the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Certificate of Honor of the Republic of Uzbekistan, an excellent student of public education of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Since 1989, he has been a member of the editorial board of the scientific and methodological VAK journal “Science and Society”.

Khalmuratov Tazhetdin Zhumashevich, candidate of philological sciences, associate professor. Born on August 04, 1956 in the city of Nukus. In 1980 he graduated from Nukus State University. Specialty – philologist, teacher of Russian language and literature. In 1994 he defended his Ph.D. thesis on the topic “Union-free complex sentences of a homogeneous composition of the modern Russian language in the aspect of the problem of identities and differences.” He is working on his doctoral dissertation on the topic: “Union-free complex sentences in languages ​​of different systems.”

T.Zh. was repeatedly awarded with the Honorary Diplomas of the Institute, the Honorary Diploma of the Ministry of Public Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan (2004). Excellent student of public education of the Republic of Kazakhstan (2005), excellent student of public education of the Republic of Uzbekistan. (2008). Has more than 30 scientific, scientific and methodical works.

Dilmanov Ilya Orakbaevich, candidate of philological sciences, associate professor. Born on September 15, 1962 in the Kegeyli region of the Republic of Karakalpakstan. In 1990 he graduated from the National University of Uzbekistan named after. Ulugbek. Specialty – philologist, teacher of Russian language and literature. In 2005 he defended his Ph.D. thesis on the topic “Features of the interpretation of national identity in the translation of epic works from related languages”. The area of ​​scientific interests is literary criticism, folklore and translation studies. Author of more than 100 scientific and methodological works. Graduate of the Presidential Academy of State Administration under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan. He was awarded the medal “Shukhrat” and the Certificate of Honor of the Jokargy Kenges of the Republic of Karakalpakstan. Graduate of the Presidential Academy of State Administration under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan (2015). Member of the Union of Journalists of Uzbekistan (1996). He was awarded the Shukhrat medal (2006) and the Honorary Diploma of the Jokargy Kenges of the Republic of Karakalpakstan (2015). Excellence in Public Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan (2014), awarded with a commemorative medal “Uzbekiston Republicasi mustakillining 30 yilligi.”

Khodzhaniyazova Aigul Aitmuratovna, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor. She was born in 1971 on January 16 in the city of Nukus. In 1988 she entered the Tambov State Pedagogical Institute, in 1993 she graduated from the Nukus State Pedagogical Institute. Specialty – teacher of Russian language and literature. In 2007 she defended her Ph.D. thesis on the topic: “Models of the level of knowledge in the Russian language based on testing as a means of improving the quality of the educational process (on the basis of schools in the Republic of Karakalpakstan)”. Author of more than 100 scientific and methodological works. Of these, 3 monographs, 1 textbook, 20 teaching aids.

Allamuratova Gulsanem Zhalgasbaevna, candidate of philological sciences, associate professor. She was born on September 28, 1969 in the city of Nukus. In 1991 she graduated from Karakalpak State University. Specialty – philologist, teacher of Russian language and literature. In 1997 she defended her Ph.D. thesis on the topic “Typology of the artistic embodiment of a historical personality and reality in the works of V. Pikul.” The area of ​​scientific interests is the study of modern pedagogical technologies, features of the modern literary process. Author of a monograph, more than 30 manuals, methodological developments, 83 articles in republican and foreign journals.

Yeshniyazova Elmira Nauryzbaevna, candidate of philological sciences, senior lecturer. She was born on May 10, 1970. In 1991 she graduated from the Nukus State Institute (the current Berdakh KSU). Specialty – philologist, teacher of Russian language and literature. In 2001 she defended her Ph.D. thesis on the topic “T.Matmuratov’s lyrics (ideological and thematic, genre and artistic originality)”. The area of ​​scientific interests is the methodology of teaching literature. Author of 5 scientific and methodological manuals, 50 scientific and methodological articles.

Turabaeva Nazira Aitmuratovna, candidate of philological sciences, senior lecturer. She was born on September 09, 1972 in the city of Nukus. In 1994 she graduated from the Nukus State Pedagogical Institute. Specialty – philologist, teacher of Russian language and literature. In 2008 she defended her Ph.D. thesis on the topic “The influence of the Uzbek language on the development of the vocabulary of the Karakalpak language”. The area of scientific interests is a comparative typology of the Russian and Karakalpak languages. Co-author of 2 teaching aids, author of more than 25 scientific articles and abstracts

Elmuratova Saera Abyllaevna, candidate of philological sciences, senior lecturer. She was born on January 01, 1981. In 2004 she graduated from the Uzbek National University. Specialty – philologist, teacher of Russian language and literature. In 2011 she defended her Ph.D. thesis on the topic “The system and functioning of word-forming categories of specific nouns in modern Russian.” Research interests – linguistics: Russian language. Author of two scientific manuals, 1 monograph, 15 articles in republican and foreign journals.

Specialists of the Department of Russian Language and Literature of the Nukus State Pedagogical Institute named after Ajiniyaz closely cooperate with the universities of Uzbekistan: in particular, the Tashkent State Pedagogical University named after Nizami, the Uzbek State University of World Languages, the National University named after Mirzo Ulugbek, as well as with foreign universities: Moscow State Pedagogical University , Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, Kuban State University  (Russian Federation), Eurasian National University named after L.N. Gumilyov, Novosibirsk State Technical University, Volgograd Social and Pedagogical University, Lipetsk State Pedagogical University named after P.P. Semenov-Tyan-Shansky, Russian State Pedagogical University. A. I. Herzen. Teachers of the Department of Russian Language and Literature closely cooperate with these universities.  As a result, students of the department actively participate in international competitions. So, in December 2021, a 3rd year student of the Faculty of Foreign Languages ​​with a degree in Russian Language and Literature Kadrekov Shorasul participated and won the first prize in the final of the International Competition   “Charm of the eyes: Russian language as a means of depicting the natural beauty of Russia”. The competition was held on December 21-22, 2021 in the city of Nizhny Tagil of the Russian Federation Mubarekov Musa, a 4th year student of the Department of Russian Language and Literature at the International Competition of Scientific Works PTScience became the Laureate of the 1st degree. The competition was held in Moscow on April 30, 2020. Musa Mubarekov also received a certificate at the national competition “EduOn-ta’lim granti”. Received 1st place and became the Student of the Year 2020 in the nomination “The most active student inventor-innovator in the field of science”, and in 2021 received 3rd place in the same nomination. Among the merits of Musa Mubarekov is participation in two projects for 2020-2021: these are “Immersion in culture – a step towards understanding the language” and “A language created for poetry …”. Seitzhanova Gulnur, Saparimbetova Nargiza won prizes at the Republican Olympiads and decorative events.

On November 26-30, 2021, the Department of Russian Language and Literature was a co-organizer of the international scientific and practical conference dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Eurasian National University named after L.N. Gumilyov and the 30th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan. At the conference, presentations were made on the topic: “Formation of motivation as a factor in increasing the level of knowledge in teaching the Russian language” – the head of the department A.A. Khodzhaniyazova, A.O. Oralbayeva undergraduate 2nd year, “Psychological and pedagogical foundations of teaching speaking in Russian in the Karakalpak school” senior teacher of the department G.K. Genzhebaeva.

The department contributed to the admission of its young teaching assistants Zarimbetov A.A. and Shamshetova Yu.M. to doctoral studies.  Teachers of the Department of Russian Language and Literature Zarimbetova A.A. and Shamshetova Yu.M. enrolled in doctoral studies and since 2022 are doctoral students of the department in the specialty 10.00.06. – Comparative Literary Studies, Comparative Linguistics and Translation Studies.
